Where to Find the Best Winter Cocktails

Ready or not winter weather is just around the corner. But have no fear, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to find the best seasonal drinks and craft cocktails to help keep you feeling cozy as temperatures continue to drop. From the classic old fashioned to new twists on seasonal favorites, check out a few of the coolest potions at some of the hottest venues across the U.S.

The swanky but never stuffy River North favorite, Celeste, is the perfect spot to settle into one of their comfy nooks and browse an award-winning craft-cocktail list. If you’re looking for a winter pick-me-up, give the Nitro Bobby a try (Highland Scotch + Cacao Nib Vermouth + Dom Benedictine + Lemon Oil Espresso Shortbread).

Drumbar has been recognized by Eater, Thrillist, GQ and Zagat as a Chicago cocktail staple, and its cozy lounge atmosphere is the perfect place to curl up with a wintery cocktail. Try a new take on seasonal mulled wine with The One Where Chandler Gets Caught (Hennessey VS + Mulled Red Wine + Apricot + Lemon + Ginger).

Fulton Market Kitchen

Fulton Market Kitchen offers a colorful and trendy ambiance perfect for escaping the winter blues and sipping on a classic cocktail. This eclectic lounge offers a wide selection of hand-picked spirit barrels and blends to put a twist on the original Old Fashioned.

New York City

Cedar Local

Cedar Local has been voted the spot for “The Best Winter Cocktails in NYC” by Thrillist. Check out this hot spot nestled in the heart of the Financial District and take a look at their rotating cocktail list. The Five Point Toddy caught our eye (Irish Whiskey + Apple Jack + Chartreuse + Spice).

Up & Up

If you find yourself lost in the the wintery New York weather, look for the illuminated sign on MacDougal street directing you down a narrow stairway to the comfortable neighborhood bar, Up & Up. And since you fought the snow and ice to get there, go ahead and indulge in the Glasswalk (WhistlePig Rye + Aged Dry Vermouth + Mara Del Capo + Pistachio Orgeat + Cinnamon).

If you’re really looking for a winter hideaway, check out the members-only club, Parlor. They’re mixing up some noteworthy cocktails this holiday season. But if can’t handle the hard stuff, they have an extensive wine collection that won’t disappoint.

Clark Food and Wine

This Lower Greenville hidden gem, Clark Food and Wine boasts creations like the Spiked Cider Martini, and the Pumpkin Smash. But if you’re all pumpkin-spiced out, take a chance with Rebecca’s Punch (Rebecca Creek Whiskey + Lillet +Lemongrass + Citrus + Red Wine).

Nickel & Rye

Nickel & Rye is a relaxed, upscale American pub in the heart of Uptown. This Dallas whiskey bar offers hand-crafted cocktails and rye whiskeys. Warm up this winter with a Maple Bacon Manhattan (Bacon-infused Bourbon + Averna Amaro + VT Maple Syrup).

San Francisco

If you’re ready for a change of pace from all the whiskey, why not check out the largest gin collection in North America at Whitechapel. The Flemish Purl caught our eye (Tanqueray Dry Gin + Diep 9 Oude Genever + Flemish Sour Ale + Brown Sugar + Ginger + Nutmeg + Clove). As a seasonal alternative to cocktails, go ahead and give their sparking cider a try.

The Barrel Room

Sip prohibition-style cocktails or choose from over 70 wines by the glass at The Barrel Room, which was named one of the “Best Wine Bars in San Francisco by Thrillist. If you can’t decide on one wine to warm you up, go for a flight.

Transport guests to another era this winter at the historic bar, Aventine, in Jackson Square. Inspired by the taverns of ancient Roman neighborhoods, this is the perfect cozy hideaway to grab a classic cocktail with a modern twist. We love the Aventine Manhattan (Bulleit Bourbon + Pur Elderflower Liqueur + A dash of Fernet + Brandied Cherries).

So there you have it. Our favorite winter cocktails at the venues we love. If you’d rather sip on wine or sample craft beer, click on the button below to browse through events in cities across the U.S.
