4 Ways to Host the Perfect Award Show Party in Chicago

With the Golden Globes last weekend, award show season is in full swing, but coming to a close after the Academy Awards on Feb. 22. While you may not brush shoulders with A-list celebrities, recreate the glitz and glam of the red carpet and host the  perfect awards show party right here in Chicago.

Choose Your Set

unnamed-1If you don’t want to watch the awards from your couch, scope out local hot spots to host your party. We recommend PUBLIC Chicago in Gold Coast, which offers a private screening room where you and your guests can watch the show with a premium open bar or Rebar in the Trump International Hotel and Tower, which offers a space with TVs where you can watch the awards, in addition to enjoying hors d’oeuvres, drinks and a beautiful view of Chicago at night.

unnamed-2Whether you end up hosting at a venue or inside your home, here are some details to consider including on your star-studded night.

Set the Scene

You can transform any venue into a swanky screening room with the right decorations. Stick to a color pallet of black, white and gold, and consider using streamers, mini Oscar man trophies and even a mock red carpet to get your guests ready for the awards. You can even craft the perfect playlist by downloading the soundtracks and scores of the nominated movies. After all, these are the sounds celebrities hear as they walk up to the stage to deliver their acceptance speeches.

Lights, Camera, Action!

unnamedThe red carpet is both the place to be and be seen at award shows. Create a similar experience by setting up a photo booth for guests.  At the end of the evening, your guests can play fashion police and vote for the best dressed and can take home their photos as mementos.

You can also see which guests are the best entertainment critics. Design your own ballot sheets and let guests cast their votes for different categories. Consider awarding the best critic with an Oscar trophy of their own for whoever predicts the most wins!

Bubbles and Bites

As you cheer on your favorite movies and stars, treat your guests to some movie treats. Sipping on flutes of champagne will make your guests feel like Hollywood elite. Certain awards shows even have an official drink. Consider replicating this year’s Golden Globes cocktail, which included two different champagnes.

There’s no better way to celebrate a night of cinema than with the ultimate movie snack – popcorn! Create a DIY popcorn bar and lay out savory, salty and sweet options for your guests – everything from sea salt to seasonings to sweets!

Finally, finish off the night with themed desserts. Our top picks include red velvet cupcakes topped with champagne frosting – add gold sprinkles for the ultimate finishing touch – and sugar cookies in the shape of Oscar statuettes are sure to impress your guests.

With the Oscars just around the corner, start prepping for your party today!
