The Old Settler is a period movie produced as part of PBS's Hollywood Presents series. For the film's website, the producing station, KCET, received a grant to produce an online documentary that explores in detail the film production process. kapow's challenge was to design a site that remained true to the 1940s aesthetic of the production while presenting the modern-day story of how the movie was created. Combining photographs, video clips, and text with a graphic timeline, the site invites users explore the film's pre-production, shoot, and post-production in an engaging and intuitive manner Site features include: |
A Timeline, in both Flash and HTML formats, which allows the visitor to navigate through the film's production schedule in chronological order and which links to the production-related pages of the site.
A Production Roles section that explains who does what on a movie set. Pages for each of the ten featured crew members include a job description, biography and an interview.
Three mini-documentaries which use text, images, and video to present in-depth interviews with the Director, Production Designer and Director of Photography.
Studies of two key scenes featuring clips from the final film, comments from crew members and early cuts of the scenes.
An extensive glossary, covering all of the of production terms used in the site.
